Advent is for Adoring Jesus, Kadosh EP, & Aebleskiver and More

#MOTM (pronounced ˈmōdəm) or Media of the Moment is where we share any media finds that have come across our desks and are new, interesting, inspiring, or noteworthy.

This year everything about Christmas is new! New husband, new family, new home, new traditions…What has come to feel very special in all the newness is getting to share traditions of my own. The highlight has been teaching my new daughter how to make an apple pie from scratch.

For this MOTM I will be sharing an advent, my 2016 Christmas playlist, and a yummy Christmas treat & tradition that has been in my family for decades.

THE ADVENT: John Piper

READ: Advent is for Adoring Jesus

I have gone through Good News of Great Joy and The Dawning of Indestructible Joy over the past two years leading up to Christmas. Not only are they fantastic, they are completely free to download from Desiring God. I love the rhythm a daily advent reading can bring. Also, the meditative nature of advent reading can be deeply impactful in the swirl of the holidays.

THE PLAYLIST: Kadosh EP – Beckah ShaeChris Tomlin feat. Lauren Daigle, Phil Wickham, Dustin KensrueGungor feat. All Sons and Daughters, and The Brilliance

LISTEN: 2016 Christmas Playlist – Kadosh EP

  1. Beckah Shae – Kadosh (Holy One) Album: Emmanuel
  2. Chris Tomlin feat. Lauren Daigle – Noel (Live) Album: Adore: Christmas Songs of Worship
  3. Phil Wickham – O Come O Come Emmanuel Album: Songs for Christmas
  4. Dustin Kensrue – O Come, All Ye Faithful Album: This Good Night Is Still Everywhere
  5. Gungor feat. All Sons and Daughters – Oh Light Album: O Christmas
  6. The Brilliance – A Light Album: Advent, Vol. 1

This playlist is special to me for a few reasons. The first is the title. I titled it Kadosh after the first track because Christmas is a time to honor the natural birth of our Divine Savior, The Holy One. The second is the brevity which, perhaps, echoes what I mentioned about the meditative nature of daily advent reading. There is nothing more impactful that distilled peace, truth, joy, and the like. In that, take your time this season, be still enough to enjoy one thing at a time, and soak up these perspectives and praises!

THE TREAT: A Danish Recipe

READ: Aebleskiver and More

The Danish dessert pancakes called aebleskivers have been a Christmas morning tradition since I was a young girl. Yes, they are round! They are served hot and topped with raspberry jam and powdered sugar. The recipe book above features many variances of aebleskiver recipes as well as other Danish dishes and treats. There is a healthy assortment of recipes on Pinterest as well. And…if you haven’t guessed…I’m part Danish!
